Young Ji: Work Hard

Moon Seongsan

Korea2020Fiction13'37"DCPColorEnglish Sub12

Youngji’s application for graduate school is rejected. On her way to throw out the trash, she learns that the chancellor’s nephew got in even though he wasn’t even interviewed. Meanwhile, the apartment security guard gets a mouthful from the HOA president regarding apartment beautification. He then finds Youngji’s address in the garbage pile. This film uses humor to point out the hypocrisy of people whose attitudes change depending on their situation or position. They are all connected to one another as though in a food chain, and their relationships accurately criticize our social conflicts. The film received the Audience Award at the 2019 Busan Citizen Filming Festival.
The Captain

A policeman and a suspect sit across from each other, and there is an odd tension between them. An umbrella sits atop the table between them, and the policeman begins to question the suspect. Focusing on the performance of these two actors, the limited setting doesn't seem at all monotonous because of the varying camera angles, effective lighting and witty dialogues. The actor's skillful performances and the film's effectiveness are the highlights of this production from the Liquid Arts 72H Film Festival.

Apartment manager Kyungsook is on edge because of her new neighbor. Stressed out by the horrible screams coming from next door, she finally pays her a visit. And she notes that something is off about the woman’s appearance and behavior. The film stresses the importance of showing an interest in our neighbors, a word that has lost its meaning in our modern society. This was a film produced through the citizen education program “Project 10 Days”.

It is the fourth summer since Sookyung’s son died. On the eve of her son’s friend Kyungoh’s release from prison, a detective visits Sookyung to stop her from going to see Kyungoh. Sookyung is silent as she begins to make the tofu that she plans to bring to Kyungoh. Though it’s summer, Sookyung’s life seems to be one long winter day in this film where the characters and scenery are filled with emotions such as resentment and guilt. This film was produced at the Busan Cinema Center Academy.
