LIST BISFF Together Roundtable

Roundtable 1:
The Role and Value of Short Film Markets

Film festivals aren’t only about screenings, awards and red carpets. For filmmakers, they also represent opportunities to develop their professional connections, to lobby for their next projects and, generally, to meet and converse with peers. Some festivals even make sure to provide their guests with as many networking opportunities and incentives as possible by establishing film markets. While these platforms may seem to make more sense for feature film festivals such as Cannes, Berlin or Busan, several short film markets also exist and thrive. But is the global short film industry profitable enough to justify the creation of more short film markets?

Status and Improvement Direction of Short Film Production Support

In 2020, BISFF launched its ‘Short Film Project’ as we felt the need to provide an extra opportunity for filmmakers in Korea to find funding for their projects. By focusing on case studies from Korea and France, we want to assess the current status and the various aspects of production support for short films, and to conduct an in-depth discussion on its possible prospects and direction for the future.
