Prequel of Switzerland

Prequel of Switzerland

Switzerland is a small but strong country with a prosperous economy, although it's appealing, beautiful natural landscape and the Alps might be the first thing that comes to mind for many foreign tourists. Cultural diversity is another characteristic of the country, where four official languages are spoken: German, French, Italian and Romansch. It boasts its traditional singing style 'Yodeling' and spreads its powerful image to children around the world with the story of Wilhelm Tell. The film industry in Switzerland has been led by several notable directors, including Leopold Lindberg. In particular, Jean-Luc Godard is recognized as one of the most influential Nouvelle Vague filmmakers. The Locarno International Film Festival, a major venue where young, talented directors are introduced, also takes place in Switzerland. Curated with the generous contribution of the shnit Worldwide Shortfilmfestival, the 'Prequel of Switzerland' is a program through which you may preview some films of Switzerland, which will be the guest country of the BISFF 2019. Even though Switzerland is one of the most prolific short film-making countries in the world, only few people really know about it. Therefore, the prequel program will give an opportunity to experience the excellence of Swiss short films. What's noteworthy with 'Prequel of Switzerland' is that a third of the films included in the program explores one of the thorniest issues around the world: 'Immigration'. Out of the total seven films, one talks about the identity of Switzerland and another about fire fighters, 'heroes of the city'. And since this program features two fictions, two documentaries and three animations, audiences will enjoy movies not only with different themes but also in different genres.
